What is a caption generator?
A caption generator is a tool that writes the text that goes with a photo or video post. You describe what's in the post, and it writes a caption with a hook, a short middle and an ending. This one fits the caption to the network's length and writes in the style and language you choose.
How do you write a caption people read?
Put the most interesting line first, because most people see only that before they tap "more". Add what the photo can't show, like the story behind it or a number. End with one clear ask, such as a question to answer in the comments. Short lines with space between them read best on a phone.
How long can a caption be on each network?
Each network has its own limit, from 280 characters on X to 5,000 on Facebook. The generator keeps your caption under the limit of the network you pick. Whatever the limit, the first line matters most.
| Network | Characters | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| 2,200 | Only the first line or two show at first | |
| 3,000 | Two or three lines show before "…more" | |
| TikTok | 2,200 | Keep the hook short, the video does the rest |
| X | 280 | The whole caption is the post |
| Threads | 500 | Short and talky |
| 5,000 | A short story works well |
Captions on LinkedIn
On LinkedIn, the caption is the post. Photos help, but people stop for the first lines. Write them like a hook, or get three options from the hook generator. For hashtags, use the hashtag generator.
If you post on LinkedIn or X every week, Postel learns how you write, drafts posts from your notes and links, and schedules them.
